[16] Then  said he  unto him,  A certain  man  made  a great  supper,  and  bade  many:  [17] And  sent  his  servant  at supper  time  to say  to them that were bidden,  Come;  for  now  ready. 

What does Luke 14:16-17 Mean?

Contextual Meaning

In the parable the host corresponds to God, and the servant (Gr. doulos) is Jesus. The people invited were the Jews primarily. In Jesus" day a banquet took a long time to prepare. [1] Likewise God had been preparing His messianic banquet for centuries.
