TAPPUAH . 1. A ‘son’ of Hebron ( 1 Chronicles 2:43 ). Probably the name is that of a town in the Shephçlah ( Joshua 15:34 . It was probably to the N. of Wâdy es-Sunt , but the site has not been recovered. 2. See En-tappuah. 3. One of the towns W. of Jordan whose kings Joshua smote ( Joshua 12:17 ). It was perhaps the same place as No. 2 above; but this is by no means certain. See also Tiphsah and Tephon.

(tap' pihuhuhuh) Personal name meaning, “apple” or “quince.” 1. A Calebite, likely a resident of a town near Hebron (1 Chronicles 2:43 ). 2 . City in the Shephelah district of Judah (Joshua 15:34 ), possibly Beit Nettif about twelve miles west of Bethlehem. 3. City of the north border of Ephraim (Joshua 16:8 ) whose environs were allotted to Manasseh (Joshua 17:7-8 ), likely the Tappuah of Joshua 12:17 and 2 Kings 15:16 . The site is perhaps Sheikh Abu Zarod about eight miles southwest of Shechem. Some scholars read, “Tappuah” for “Tiphsah” in 2 Kings 15:16 (REB). See Beth-Tappuah ; En-Tappuah .

1. A city of Judah in the shephelah or low hilly region (Joshua 15:34); on the lower slopes of the hills, 12 miles W. of Jerusalem.

2. On Ephraim's border, not far from the Mediterranean, "THE LAND OF Tappuah," in the territory of Ephraim but belonging to Manasseh (Joshua 16:8; Joshua 17:8). Having a good spring it is called En Tappuah (Joshua 17:7). Near the torrent Kanah.

Fausset's Bible Dictionary - Tappuah (2)
A son of Hebron (1 Chronicles 2:43); perhaps the meaning is a place near Hebron where one of Hebron's sons settled, from whence the family took its name. Smith's Bible Dictionary makes Tappuah colonized by the men of Hebron, the same place as Beth Tappuah. (See BETH TAPPUAH.) But the continuation of the genealogy, and Korah being never mentioned as a place, requires Hebron to be a person.
