Holman Bible Dictionary - Horesh
(hoh' rehssh) Place name meaning, “forest,” KJV interpreting the term as a common noun. If a proper name, Horesh may be modern khirbet Khoreisa, two miles south of Ziph and six miles south of Hebron.

Hastings' Dictionary of the Bible - Horesh
HORESH . The word hôresh means ‘wooded height’ in Isaiah 17:9 , Eze 31:3 , 2 Chronicles 27:4 , and this is probably its meaning in 1 Samuel 23:15 (cf. 1 Samuel 23:16 ; 1 Samuel 23:18 ), although some would make Horesh a proper name, as in RVm [Note: Revised Version margin.] .
