Zaanannim
(za' uh nan neem) Place name of uncertain meaning. Town on northeastern corner of tribal allotment of Naphtali near Kadesh (Joshua 19:33 ; Judges 4:11 ). The “plain of Zaanaim” (Judges 4:11 KJV) is literally translated, “great tree in Zaanannim” (NIV) or “oak in Zaanannim” (NAS; note transliterations of REB, NRSV). This probably indicates a “sacred tree” associated with a worship center. See Elon ; Terebinth .
Hastings' Dictionary of the Bible -
Zaanannim
ZAANANNIM . The border of the tribe of Naphtali passed through ‘the terebinth in Zaanannim’ ( Joshua 19:33 ), and the camp of Heber the Kenite was at ‘the terebinth in Z. which is by Kedesh’ ( Judges 4:11 ). It is probable that the preposition ‘in’ ( be in Heb.) is part of the name, which should then be read Bezaanannim . The site is unknown. A plausible conjecture is that it was Khirbet Bessum , E. of Mt. Tabor.
