Romans 9:1-24
I say the truth in Christ, I lie not, my conscience also bearing me witness in the Holy Ghost, That I have great heaviness and continual sorrow in my heart. For I could wish that myself were accursed from Christ for my brethren, my kinsmen according to the flesh: Who are Israelites; to whom pertaineth the adoption, and the glory, and the covenants, and the giving of the law, and the service of God, and the promises; read more Whose are the fathers, and of whom as concerning the flesh Christ came, who is over all, God blessed for ever. Amen. Not as though the word of God hath taken none effect. For they are not all Israel, which are of Israel: Neither, because they are the seed of Abraham, are they all children: but, In Isaac shall thy seed be called. That is, They which are the children of the flesh, these are not the children of God: but the children of the promise are counted for the seed. For this is the word of promise, At this time will I come, and Sara shall have a son. And not only this; but when Rebecca also had conceived by one, even by our father Isaac; (For the children being not yet born, neither having done any good or evil, that the purpose of God according to election might stand, not of works, but of him that calleth;) It was said unto her, The elder shall serve the younger. As it is written, Jacob have I loved, but Esau have I hated. What shall we say then? Is there unrighteousness with God? God forbid. For he saith to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion. So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy. For the scripture saith unto Pharaoh, Even for this same purpose have I raised thee up, that I might shew my power in thee, and that my name might be declared throughout all the earth. Therefore hath he mercy on whom he will have mercy, and whom he will he hardeneth. Thou wilt say then unto me, Why doth he yet find fault? For who hath resisted his will? Nay but, O man, who art thou that repliest against God? Shall the thing formed say to him that formed it, Why hast thou made me thus? Hath not the potter power over the clay, of the same lump to make one vessel unto honour, and another unto dishonour? What if God, willing to shew his wrath, and to make his power known, endured with much longsuffering the vessels of wrath fitted to destruction: And that he might make known the riches of his glory on the vessels of mercy, which he had afore prepared unto glory, Even us, whom he hath called, not of the Jews only, but also of the Gentiles? show less |

And they shall know that I <I>AmI> the LORD, when I have set a fire In Egypt, and <I>whenI> all her helpers shall be destroyed.
And the tree of the field shall yield her fruit, and the earth shall yield her increase, and they shall be safe In their land, and shall know that I <I>AmI> the LORD, when I have broken the bands of their yoke, and delivered them out of the hand of those that served themselves of them.
And I will sanctify my great name, which was profaned among the heathen, which ye have profaned In the midst of them; and the heathen shall know that I <I>AmI> the LORD, saith the Lord GOD, when I shall be sanctified In you before their eyes.
As the holy flock, as the flock of Jerusalem In her solemn feasts; so shall the waste cities be filled with flocks of men: and they shall know that I <I>AmI> the LORD.
And I will lay sinews upon you, and will bring up flesh upon you, and cover you with skin, and put breath In you, and ye shall live; and ye shall know that I <I>AmI> the LORD.
Thus will I magnify myself, and sanctify myself; and I will be known In the eyes of many nations, and they shall know that I <I>AmI> the LORD.
And I will send a fire on Magog, and among them that dwell carelessly In the isles: and they shall know that I <I>AmI> the LORD.
So will I make my holy name known In the midst of my people Israel; and I will not <I>let themI> pollute my holy name any more: and the heathen shall know that I <I>AmI> the LORD, the Holy One In Israel.
When I have brought them again from the people, and gathered them out of their enemies' lands, and Am sanctified In them In the sight of many nations;
And it shall be unto them for an inheritance: I <I>AmI> their inheritance: and ye shall give them no possession In Israel: I <I>AmI> their possession.
Now I Am come to make thee understand what shall befall thy people In the latter days: for yet the vision <I>isI> for <I>manyI> days.
I will not execute the fierceness of mine anger, I will not return to destroy Ephraim: for I <I>AmI> God, and not man; the Holy One In the midst of thee: and I will not enter into the city.
And Ephraim said, Yet I Am become rich, I have found me out substance: <I>InI> all my labours they shall find none iniquity In me that <I>wereI> sin.
And I <I>that AmI> the LORD thy God from the land of Egypt will yet make thee to dwell In tabernacles, as In the days of the solemn feast.
And ye shall know that I <I>AmI> In the midst of Israel, and <I>thatI> I <I>AmI> the LORD your God, and none else: and my people shall never be ashamed.
So shall ye know that I <I>AmI> the LORD your God dwelling In Zion, my holy mountain: then shall Jerusalem be holy, and there shall no strangers pass through her any more.
Behold, I <I>AmI> against thee, saith the LORD of hosts, and I will burn her chariots In the smoke, and the sword shall devour thy young lions: and I will cut off thy prey from the earth, and the voice of thy messengers shall no more be heard.
This <I>isI> the rejoicing city that dwelt carelessly, that said In her heart, I <I>AmI>, and <I>there isI> none beside me: how is she become a desolation, a place for beasts to lie down In! every one that passeth by her shall hiss, <I>andI> wag his hand.
Then spake Haggai the LORD'S messenger In the LORD'S message unto the people, saying, I <I>AmI> with you, saith the LORD.
Therefore thus saith the LORD; I Am returned to Jerusalem with mercies: my house shall be built In it, saith the LORD of hosts, and a line shall be stretched forth upon Jerusalem.
Thus saith the LORD; I Am returned unto Zion, and will dwell In the midst of Jerusalem: and Jerusalem shall be called a city of truth; and the mountain of the LORD of hosts the holy mountain.
But cursed <I>beI> the deceiver, which hath In his flock a male, and voweth, and sacrificeth unto the Lord a corrupt thing: for I <I>AmI> a great King, saith the LORD of hosts, and my name <I>isI> dreadful among the heathen.
For I Am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter In law against her mother In law.
Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I Am meek and lowly In heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, In whom I Am well pleased; hear ye him.
For where two or three are gathered together In my name, there Am I In the midst of them.
And said, This <I>fellowI> said, I Am able to destroy the temple of God, and to build it In three days.
He trusted In God; let him deliver him now, if he will have him: for he said, I Am the Son of God.
And there came a voice from heaven, <I>sayingI>, Thou art my beloved Son, In whom I Am well pleased.
And as touching the dead, that they rise: have ye not read In the book of Moses, how In the bush God spake unto him, saying, I <I>AmI> the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob?
And Jesus said, I Am: and ye shall see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming In the clouds of heaven.
And the angel answering said unto him, I Am Gabriel, that stand In the presence of God; and Am sent to speak unto thee, and to shew thee these glad tidings.
And the son said unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and In thy sight, and Am no more worthy to be called thy son.
And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger In water, and cool my tongue; for I Am tormented In this flame.
And he said, Take heed that ye be not deceived: for many shall come In my name, saying, I Am <I>ChristI>; and the time draweth near: go ye not therefore after them.
He said, I <I>AmI> the voice of one crying In the wilderness, Make straight the way of the Lord, as said the prophet Esaias.
Then cried Jesus In the temple as he taught, saying, Ye both know me, and ye know whence I Am: and I Am not come of myself, but he that sent me is true, whom ye know not.
I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die In your sins: for if ye believe not that I Am <I>heI>, ye shall die In your sins.
I Am the door: by me if any man enter In, he shall be saved, and shall go In and out, and find pasture.
Jesus said unto her, I Am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth In me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:
I Am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide In darkness.
Believest thou not that I Am In the Father, and the Father In me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth In me, he doeth the works.
Believe me that I <I>AmI> In the Father, and the Father In me: or else believe me for the very works' sake.
I Am the vine, ye <I>areI> the branches: He that abideth In me, and I In him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.
And now I Am no more In the world, but these are In the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we <I>areI>.
And there was a certain disciple at Damascus, named Ananias; and to him said the Lord In a vision, Ananias. And he said, Behold, I <I>Am hereI>, Lord.
For I Am with thee, and no man shall set on thee to hurt thee: for I have much people In this city.
But Paul said, I Am a man <I>which AmI> a Jew of Tarsus, <I>a cityI> In Cilicia, a citizen of no mean city: and, I beseech thee, suffer me to speak unto the people.
I Am verily a man <I>which AmI> a Jew, born In Tarsus, <I>a cityI> In Cilicia, yet brought up In this city at the feet of Gamaliel, <I>andI> taught according to the perfect manner of the law of the fathers, and was zealous toward God, as ye all are this day.
Except it be for this one voice, that I cried standing among them, Touching the resurrection of the dead I Am called In question by you this day.
For the king knoweth of these things, before whom also I speak freely: for I Am persuaded that none of these things are hidden from him; for this thing was not done In a corner.
And I Am sure that, when I come unto you, I shall come In the fulness of the blessing of the gospel of Christ.
Am I not an apostle? Am I not free? have I not seen Jesus Christ our Lord? are not ye my work In the Lord?
If I be not an apostle unto others, yet doubtless I Am to you: for the seal of mine apostleship are ye In the Lord.
For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know In part; but then shall I know even as also I Am known.
But by the grace of God I Am what I Am: and his grace which <I>was bestowedI> upon me was not In vain; but I laboured more abundantly than they all: yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me.
Great <I>isI> my boldness of speech toward you, great <I>isI> my glorying of you: I Am filled with comfort, I Am exceeding joyful In all our tribulation.
For if I have boasted any thing to him of you, I Am not ashamed; but as we spake all things to you In truth, even so our boasting, which <I>I madeI> before Titus, is found a truth.
Now I Paul myself beseech you by the meekness and gentleness of Christ, who In presence <I>AmI> base among you, but being absent Am bold toward you:
Are they ministers of Christ? (I speak as a fool) I <I>AmI> more; In labours more abundant, In stripes above measure, In prisons more frequent, In deaths oft.
Therefore I take pleasure In infirmities, In reproaches, In necessities, In persecutions, In distresses for Christ's sake: for when I Am weak, then Am I strong.
I Am become a fool In glorying; ye have compelled me: for I ought to have been commended of you: for In nothing Am I behind the very chiefest apostles, though I be nothing.
This <I>isI> the third <I>timeI> I Am coming to you. In the mouth of two or three witnesses shall every word be established.
I Am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth In me: and the life which I now live In the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.
But <I>it isI> good to be zealously affected always In <I>aI> good <I>thingI>, and not only when I Am present with you.
For which I Am an ambassador In bonds: that therein I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.
For I Am In a strait betwixt two, having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ; which is far better:
Not that I speak In respect of want: for I have learned, In whatsoever state I Am, <I>therewithI> to be content.
I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and In all things I Am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need.
If ye continue In the faith grounded and settled, and <I>beI> not moved away from the hope of the gospel, which ye have heard, <I>andI> which was preached to every creature which is under heaven; whereof I Paul Am made a minister;
For though I be absent In the flesh, yet Am I with you In the spirit, joying and beholding your order, and the stedfastness of your faith In Christ.
Withal praying also for us, that God would open unto us a door of utterance, to speak the mystery of Christ, for which I Am also In bonds:
Whereunto I Am ordained a preacher, and an apostle, (I speak the truth In Christ, <I>andI> lie not;) a teacher of the Gentiles In faith and verity.
When I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is In thee, which dwelt first In thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and I Am persuaded that In thee also.
Yea, I think it meet, as long as I Am In this tabernacle, to stir you up by putting <I>youI> In remembrance;
For he received from God the Father honour and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son, In whom I Am well pleased.
I John, who also Am your brother, and companion In tribulation, and In the kingdom and patience of Jesus Christ, was In the isle that is called Patmos, for the word of God, and for the testimony of Jesus Christ.
Saying, I Am Alpha and Omega, the first and the last: and, What thou seest, write In a book, and send <I>itI> unto the seven churches which are In Asia; unto Ephesus, and unto Smyrna, and unto Pergamos, and unto Thyatira, and unto Sardis, and unto Philadelphia, and unto Laodicea.
To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me In my throne, even as I also overcame, and Am set down with my Father In his throne.
How much she hath glorified herself, and lived deliciously, so much torment and sorrow give her: for she saith In her heart, I sit a queen, and Am no widow, and shall see no sorrow.
I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things In the churches. I Am the root and the offspring of David, <I>andI> the bright and morning star.
