For that which I do I allow not: for what I would, that do I not; but what I hate, that do I. If then I do that which I would not, I consent unto the law that it is good. Now then it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me. For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not. read more For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do. Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me. I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me. For I delight in the law of God after the inward man: But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members. O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death? I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin. show less |

Matthew 6:25-34
Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they? Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature? And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: read more And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith? Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof. show less |

But thine eyes and thine heart arei> not but for thy covetousness, and for to shed innocent blood, and for oppression, and for violence, to do iti>.

Behold, i ami> against them that prophesy false dreams, saith the LORD, and do tell them, and cause my people to err by their lies, and by their lightness; yet i sent them not, nor commanded them: therefore they shall not profit this people at all, saith the LORD.
And go not after other gods to serve them, and to worship them, and provoke me not to anger with the works of your hands; and i will do you no hurt.
Therefore thus saith the LORD; Behold, i will punish Shemaiah the Nehelamite, and his seed: he shall not have a man to dwell among this people; neither shall he behold the good that i will do for my people, saith the LORD; because he hath taught rebellion against the LORD.
And they built the high places of Baal, which arei> in the valley of the son of Hinnom, to cause their sons and their daughters to pass through the firei> unto Molech; which i commanded them not, neither came it into my mind, that they should do this abomination, to cause Judah to sin.
And i will make an everlasting covenant with them, that i will not turn away from them, to do them good; but i will put my fear in their hearts, that they shall not depart from me.
Then Zedekiah the king said, Behold, he isi> in your hand: for the king isi> not he thati> can do anyi> thing against you.
Howbeit i sent unto you all my servants the prophets, rising early and sending themi>, saying, Oh, do not this abominable thing that i hate.
And i will do in thee that which i have not done, and whereunto i will not do any more the like, because of all thine abominations.
And they shall know that i ami> the LORD, and thati> i have not said in vain that i would do this evil unto them.
But the house of Israel rebelled against me in the wilderness: they walked not in my statutes, and they despised my judgments, which ifi> a man do, he shall even live in them; and my sabbaths they greatly polluted: then i said, i would pour out my fury upon them in the wilderness, to consume them.
Notwithstanding the children rebelled against me: they walked not in my statutes, neither kept my judgments to do them, which ifi> a man do, he shall even live in them; they polluted my sabbaths: then i said, i would pour out my fury upon them, to accomplish my anger against them in the wilderness. Nevertheless i withdrew mine hand, and wrought for my name's sake, that it should not be polluted in the sight of the heathen, in whose sight i brought them forth.
Thus will i cause lewdness to cease out of the land, that all women may be taught not to do after your lewdness.
i the LORD have spoken iti>: it shall come to pass, and i will do iti>; i will not go back, neither will i spare, neither will i repent; according to thy ways, and according to thy doings, shall they judge thee, saith the Lord GOD.
And ye shall do as i have done: ye shall not cover youri> lips, nor eat the bread of men.
And they come unto thee as the people cometh, and they sit before thee asi> my people, and they hear thy words, but they will not do them: for with their mouth they shew much love, buti> their heart goeth after their covetousness.
And, lo, thou arti> unto them as a very lovely song of one that hath a pleasant voice, and can play well on an instrument: for they hear thy words, but they do them not.
Son of man, prophesy against the shepherds of Israel, prophesy, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD unto the shepherds; Woe bei> to the shepherds of Israel that do feed themselves! should not the shepherds feed the flocks?
Therefore say unto the house of Israel, Thus saith the Lord GOD; i do not thisi> for your sakes, O house of Israel, but for mine holy name's sake, which ye have profaned among the heathen, whither ye went.
not for your sakes do i thisi>, saith the Lord GOD, be it known unto you: be ashamed and confounded for your own ways, O house of Israel.
And they shall not come near unto me, to do the office of a priest unto me, nor to come near to any of my holy things, in the most holy placei>: but they shall bear their shame, and their abominations which they have committed.
Nebuchadnezzar spake and said unto them, Is iti> true, O Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, do not ye serve my gods, nor worship the golden image which i have set up?
He shall also set his face to enter with the strength of his whole kingdom, and upright ones with him; thus shall he do: and he shall give him the daughter of women, corrupting her: but she shall not stand on his sidei>, neither be for him.
He shall enter peaceably even upon the fattest places of the province; and he shall do thati> which his fathers have not done, nor his fathers' fathers; he shall scatter among them the prey, and spoil, and riches: yeai>, and he shall forecast his devices against the strong holds, even for a time.
And both these kings' hearts shall bei> to do mischief, and they shall speak lies at one table; but it shall not prosper: for yet the end shall bei> at the time appointed.
And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God repented of the evil, that he had said that he would do unto them; and he did iti> not.
Therefore thus saith the LORD; Behold, against this family do i devise an evil, from which ye shall not remove your necks; neither shall ye go haughtily: for this time isi> evil.
O thou that arti> named the house of Jacob, is the spirit of the LORD straitened? arei> these his doings? do not my words do good to him that walketh uprightly?
And it shall come to pass at that time, thati> i will search Jerusalem with candles, and punish the men that are settled on their lees: that say in their heart, The LORD will not do good, neither will he do evil.
The just LORD isi> in the midst thereof; he will not do iniquity: every morning doth he bring his judgment to light, he faileth not; but the unjust knoweth no shame.
The remnant of Israel shall not do iniquity, nor speak lies; neither shall a deceitful tongue be found in their mouth: for they shall feed and lie down, and none shall make themi> afraid.
Who isi> left among you that saw this house in her first glory? and how do ye see it now? is iti> not in your eyes in comparison of it as nothing?
But my words and my statutes, which i commanded my servants the prophets, did they not take hold of your fathers? and they returned and said, Like as the LORD of hosts thought to do unto us, according to our ways, and according to our doings, so hath he dealt with us.
So again have i thought in these days to do well unto Jerusalem and to the house of Judah: fear ye not.
The LORD also shall save the tents of Judah first, that the glory of the house of David and the glory of the inhabitants of Jerusalem do not magnify themselvesi> against Judah.
If ye will not hear, and if ye will not lay iti> to heart, to give glory unto my name, saith the LORD of hosts, i will even send a curse upon you, and i will curse your blessings: yea, i have cursed them already, because ye do not lay iti> to heart.
And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than othersi>? do not even the publicans so?
Therefore when thou doest thinei> alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily i say unto you, They have their reward.
But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen doi>: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.
But when the Pharisees saw iti>, they said unto him, Behold, thy disciples do that which is not lawful to do upon the sabbath day.
Therefore speak i to them in parables: because they seeing see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand.
How is it that ye do not understand that i spake iti> not to you concerning bread, that ye should beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees?
Take heed that ye despise not one of these little ones; for i say unto you, That in heaven their angels do always behold the face of my Father which is in heaven.
But he answered one of them, and said, Friend, i do thee no wrong: didst not thou agree with me for a penny?
Is it not lawful for me to do what i will with mine own? Is thine eye evil, because i am good?
Jesus answered and said unto them, Verily i say unto you, If ye have faith, and doubt not, ye shall not only do this which is donei> to the fig tree, but also if ye shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; it shall be done.
All therefore whatsoever they bid you observe, thati> observe and do; but do not ye after their works: for they say, and do not.
And cried with a loud voice, and said, What have i to do with thee, Jesus, thoui> Son of the most high God? i adjure thee by God, that thou torment me not.
And he saith unto them, Are ye so without understanding also? do ye not perceive, that whatsoever thing from without entereth into the man, iti> cannot defile him; Because it entereth not into his heart, but into the belly, and goeth out into the draught, purging all meats?
But when they shall lead youi>, and deliver you up, take no thought beforehand what ye shall speak, neither do ye premeditate: but whatsoever shall be given you in that hour, that speak ye: for it is not ye that speak, but the Holy Ghost.
When he saw Jesus, he cried out, and fell down before him, and with a loud voice said, What have i to do with thee, Jesus, thoui> Son of God most high? i beseech thee, torment me not.
And i say unto you my friends, Be not afraid of them that kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do.
Yei> hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky and of the earth; but how is it that ye do not discern this time?
Verily, verily, i say unto thee, We speak that we do know, and testify that we have seen; and ye receive not our witness.
do not think that i will accuse you to the Father: there is onei> that accuseth you, eveni> Moses, in whom ye trust.
And he that sent me is with me: the Father hath not left me alone; for i do always those things that please him.
Ye do the deeds of your father. Then said they to him, We be not born of fornication; we have one Father, eveni> God.
Ye are of youri> father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.
Jesus answered them, i told you, and ye believed not: the works that i do in my Father's name, they bear witness of me.
But if i do, though ye believe not me, believe the works: that ye may know, and believe, that the Father isi> in me, and i in him.
Jesus answered and said unto him, What i do thou knowest not now; but thou shalt know hereafter.
Now Jesus knew that they were desirous to ask him, and said unto them, do ye inquire among yourselves of that i said, A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me?
And even as they did not like to retain God in theiri> knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;
And not ratheri>, (as we be slanderously reported, and as some affirm that we say,) Let us do evil, that good may come? whose damnation is just.
For that which i do i allow not: for what i would, that do i not; but what i hate, that do i.
For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to executei> wrath upon him that doeth evil.
That i may be delivered from them that do not believe in Judaea; and that my service which i havei> for Jerusalem may be accepted of the saints;
For what have i to do to judge them also that are without? do not ye judge them that are within?
Now therefore there is utterly a fault among you, because ye go to law one with another. Why do ye not rather take wrong? why do ye not rather suffer yourselves toi> be defrauded?
But if any man think that he behaveth himself uncomely toward his virgin, if she pass the flower of heri> age, and need so require, let him do what he will, he sinneth not: let them marry.
do ye not know that they which minister about holy things live of the thingsi> of the temple? and they which wait at the altar are partakers with the altar?
For we that are in thisi> tabernacle do groan, being burdened: not for that we would be unclothed, but clothed upon, that mortality might be swallowed up of life.
For though i made you sorry with a letter, i do not repent, though i did repent: for i perceive that the same epistle hath made you sorry, though it werei> but for a season.
And herein i give myi> advice: for this is expedient for you, who have begun before, not only to do, but also to be forward a year ago.
Now i pray to God that ye do no evil; not that we should appear approved, but that ye should do that which is honest, though we be as reprobates.
For do i now persuade men, or God? or do i seek to please men? for if i yet pleased men, i should not be the servant of Christ.
But when i saw that they walked not uprightly according to the truth of the gospel, i said unto Peter before themi> all, If thou, being a Jew, livest after the manner of Gentiles, and not as do the Jews, why compellest thou the Gentiles to live as do the Jews?
i do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness comei> by the law, then Christ is dead in vain.
For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed isi> every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them.
Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which i tell you before, as i have also told youi> in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.
Brethren, i count not myself to have apprehended: but thisi> one thing i doi>, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,
For this cause we also, since the day we heard iti>, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;
And they that have believing masters, let them not despise themi>, because they are brethren; but rather do themi> service, because they are faithful and beloved, partakers of the benefit. These things teach and exhort.
But without thy mind would i do nothing; that thy benefit should not be as it were of necessity, but willingly.
i Paul have written iti> with mine own hand, i will repay iti>: albeit i do not say to thee how thou owest unto me even thine own self besides.
Wherefore i was grieved with that generation, and said, They do alway err in theiri> heart; and they have not known my ways.
Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things arei> naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.
For God isi> not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love, which ye have shewed toward his name, in that ye have ministered to the saints, and do minister.
So that we may boldly say, The Lord isi> my helper, and i will not fear what man shall do unto me.
Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that isi> unprofitable for you.
If any man see his brother sin a sin which isi> not unto death, he shall ask, and he shall give him life for them that sin not unto death. There is a sin unto death: i do not say that he shall pray for it.
Behold, i will make them of the synagogue of Satan, which say they are Jews, and are not, but do lie; behold, i will make them to come and worship before thy feet, and to know that i have loved thee.
i counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and thati> the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see.
And i fell at his feet to worship him. And he said unto me, See thou do iti> not: i am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren that have the testimony of Jesus: worship God: for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.
Then saith he unto me, See thou do iti> not: for i am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren the prophets, and of them which keep the sayings of this book: worship God.
