Who was therei> among all the gods of those nations that my fathers utterly destroyed, that could deliver his people out of mine hand, that your God should be able to deliver you out of mine hand?
But Hezekiah rendered not again according to the benefit donei> unto him; for his heart was lifted up: therefore there was wrath upon him, and upon Judah and Jerusalem.
But they mocked the messengers of God, and despised his words, and misused his prophets, until the wrath of the LORD arose against his people, till there wasi> no remedy.
there have been mighty kings also over Jerusalem, which have ruled over all countriesi> beyond the river; and toll, tribute, and custom, was paid unto them.
Now therefore, if it seemi> good to the king, let there be search made in the king's treasure house, which isi> there at Babylon, whether it be soi>, that a decree was made of Cyrus the king to build this house of God at Jerusalem, and let the king send his pleasure to us concerning this matter.
And there was found at Achmetha, in the palace that isi> in the province of the Medes, a roll, and therein wasi> a record thus written:
When Sanballat the Horonite, and Tobiah the servant, the Ammonite, heard of iti>, it grieved them exceedingly that there was come a man to seek the welfare of the children of Israel.
And i arose in the night, i and some few men with me; neither told i anyi> man what my God had put in my heart to do at Jerusalem: neither was there anyi> beast with me, save the beast that i rode upon.
Then i went on to the gate of the fountain, and to the king's pool: but there wasi> no place for the beast that wasi> under me to pass.
Now it came to pass, when Sanballat, and Tobiah, and Geshem the Arabian, and the rest of our enemies, heard that i had builded the wall, and thati> there was no breach left therein; (though at that time i had not set up the doors upon the gates;)
For there werei> many in Judah sworn unto him, because he wasi> the son in law of Shechaniah the son of Arah; and his son Johanan had taken the daughter of Meshullam the son of Berechiah.
Nowi> in Shushan the palace there was a certain Jew, whose name wasi> Mordecai, the son of Jair, the son of Shimei, the son of Kish, a Benjamite;
Then were the king's scribes called on the thirteenth day of the first month, and there was written according to all that Haman had commanded unto the king's lieutenants, and to the governors that werei> over every province, and to the rulers of every people of every province according to the writing thereof, and toi> every people after their language; in the name of king Ahasuerus was it written, and sealed with the king's ring.
And in every province, whithersoever the king's commandment and his decree came, there wasi> great mourning among the Jews, and fasting, and weeping, and wailing; and many lay in sackcloth and ashes.
And the king arising from the banquet of wine in his wrath wenti> into the palace garden: and Haman stood up to make request for his life to Esther the queen; for he saw that there was evil determined against him by the king.
there was a man in the land of Uz, whose name wasi> Job; and that man was perfect and upright, and one that feared God, and eschewed evil.
And there was a day when his sons and his daughters werei> eating and drinking wine in their eldest brother's house: And there came a messenger unto Job, and said, The oxen were plowing, and the asses feeding beside them: And the Sabeans fell upon themi>, and took them away; yea, they have slain the servants with the edge of the sword; and i only am escaped alone to tell thee. While he wasi> yet speaking, there came also another, and said, The fire of God is fallen from heaven, and hath burned up the sheep, and the servants, and consumed them; and i only am escaped alone to tell thee. read more While he wasi> yet speaking, there came also another, and said, The Chaldeans made out three bands, and fell upon the camels, and have carried them away, yea, and slain the servants with the edge of the sword; and i only am escaped alone to tell thee. While he wasi> yet speaking, there came also another, and said, Thy sons and thy daughters werei> eating and drinking wine in their eldest brother's house: And, behold, there came a great wind from the wilderness, and smote the four corners of the house, and it fell upon the young men, and they are dead; and i only am escaped alone to tell thee. Then Job arose, and rent his mantle, and shaved his head, and fell down upon the ground, and worshipped, And said, Naked came i out of my mother's womb, and naked shall i return thither: the LORD gave, and the LORD hath taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD. In all this Job sinned not, nor charged God foolishly. show less
While he wasi> yet speaking, there came also another, and said, The fire of God is fallen from heaven, and hath burned up the sheep, and the servants, and consumed them; and i only am escaped alone to tell thee.
While he wasi> yet speaking, there came also another, and said, Thy sons and thy daughters werei> eating and drinking wine in their eldest brother's house:
Let the day perish wherein i was born, and the night in whichi> it was said, there is a man child conceived.
It stood still, but i could not discern the form thereof: an image wasi> before mine eyes, there wasi> silence, and i heard a voice, sayingi>,
When Elihu saw that there wasi> no answer in the mouth of thesei> three men, then his wrath was kindled.
Yea, i attended unto you, and, behold, there wasi> none of you that convinced Job, ori> that answered his words:
They cried, but there wasi> none to save them: eveni> unto the LORD, but he answered them not.
there were they in great fear, wherei> no fear was: for God hath scattered the bones of him that encampeth againsti> thee: thou hast put themi> to shame, because God hath despised them.
He hath delivered my soul in peace from the battle that wasi> against me: for there were many with me.
Reproach hath broken my heart; and i am full of heaviness: and i looked for somei> to take pity, but there wasi> none; and for comforters, but i found none.
Their blood have they shed like water round about Jerusalem; and there wasi> none to bury themi>.
i will make mention of Rahab and Babylon to them that know me: behold Philistia, and Tyre, with Ethiopia; this mani> was born there.
The LORD shall count, when he writeth up the people, thati> this mani> was born there. Selah.
He brought them forth also with silver and gold: and there wasi> not one feeble personi> among their tribes.
Therefore he brought down their heart with labour; they fell down, and there wasi> none to help.
Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my membersi> were written, whichi> in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there wasi> none of them.
i looked on myi> right hand, and beheld, but there wasi> no man that would know me: refuge failed me; no man cared for my soul.
When there werei> no depths, i was brought forth; when there werei> no fountains abounding with water.
When he prepared the heavens, i wasi> there: when he set a compass upon the face of the depth:
Is there anyi> thing whereof it may be said, See, this isi> new? it hath been already of old time, which was before us.
Then i looked on all the works that my hands had wrought, and on the labour that i had laboured to do: and, behold, all wasi> vanity and vexation of spirit, and there wasi> no profit under the sun.
there isi> nothing better for a man, thani> that he should eat and drink, and thati> he should make his soul enjoy good in his labour. This also i saw, that it wasi> from the hand of God. For who can eat, or who else can hasten hereuntoi>, more than i? For Godi> giveth to a man that isi> good in his sight wisdom, and knowledge, and joy: but to the sinner he giveth travail, to gather and to heap up, that he may give to him that isi> good before God. This also isi> vanity and vexation of spirit.
And moreover i saw under the sun the place of judgment, thati> wickedness wasi> there; and the place of righteousness, thati> iniquity wasi> there. i said in mine heart, God shall judge the righteous and the wicked: for there isi> a time there for every purpose and for every work. i said in mine heart concerning the estate of the sons of men, that God might manifest them, and that they might see that they themselves are beasts. For that which befalleth the sons of men befalleth beasts; even one thing befalleth them: as the one dieth, so dieth the other; yea, they have all one breath; so that a man hath no preeminence above a beast: for all isi> vanity. read more All go unto one place; all are of the dust, and all turn to dust again. Who knoweth the spirit of man that goeth upward, and the spirit of the beast that goeth downward to the earth? Wherefore i perceive that there isi> nothing better, than that a man should rejoice in his own works; for that isi> his portion: for who shall bring him to see what shall be after him? show less
So i returned, and considered all the oppressions that are done under the sun: and behold the tears of such as werei> oppressed, and they had no comforter; and on the side of their oppressors there wasi> power; but they had no comforter.
there wasi> a little city, and few men within it; and there came a great king against it, and besieged it, and built great bulwarks against it:
And my hand hath found as a nest the riches of the people: and as one gathereth eggs that arei> left, have i gathered all the earth; and there was none that moved the wing, or opened the mouth, or peeped.
But the word of the LORD was unto them precept upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, andi> there a little; that they might go, and fall backward, and be broken, and snared, and taken.
For i beheld, and there wasi> no man; even among them, and there wasi> no counseller, that, when i asked of them, could answer a word.
Ye arei> my witnesses, saith the LORD, and my servant whom i have chosen: that ye may know and believe me, and understand that i ami> he: before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me.
i have declared, and have saved, and i have shewed, when there wasi> no strange godi> among you: therefore ye arei> my witnesses, saith the LORD, that i ami> God.
Yea, before the day wasi> i ami> he; and there isi> none that can deliver out of my hand: i will work, and who shall let it?
Come ye near unto me, hear ye this; i have not spoken in secret from the beginning; from the time that it was, there ami> i: and now the Lord GOD, and his Spirit, hath sent me.
Wherefore, when i came, was therei> no man? when i called, was therei> none to answer? Is my hand shortened at all, that it cannot redeem? or have i no power to deliver? behold, at my rebuke i dry up the sea, i make the rivers a wilderness: their fish stinketh, because there isi> no water, and dieth for thirst.
Yea, truth faileth; and he thati> departeth from evil maketh himself a prey: and the LORD saw iti>, and it displeased him that there wasi> no judgment.
And he saw that there wasi> no man, and wondered that there wasi> no intercessor: therefore his arm brought salvation unto him; and his righteousness, it sustained him.
i have trodden the winepress alone; and of the people there wasi> none with me: for i will tread them in mine anger, and trample them in my fury; and their blood shall be sprinkled upon my garments, and i will stain all my raiment.
And i looked, and there wasi> none to help; and i wondered that there wasi> none to uphold: therefore mine own arm brought salvation unto me; and my fury, it upheld me.
Yea, the hind also calved in the field, and forsook iti>, because there was no grass.
And the wild asses did stand in the high places, they snuffed up the wind like dragons; their eyes did fail, because there wasi> no grass.
Now the king sat in the winterhouse in the ninth month: and there was a firei> on the hearth burning before him.
And when he was in the gate of Benjamin, a captain of the ward wasi> there, whose name wasi> Irijah, the son of Shelemiah, the son of Hananiah; and he took Jeremiah the prophet, saying, Thou fallest away to the Chaldeans.
Then took they Jeremiah, and cast him into the dungeon of Malchiah the son of Hammelech, that wasi> in the court of the prison: and they let down Jeremiah with cords. And in the dungeon there wasi> no water, but mire: so Jeremiah sunk in the mire.
So Jeremiah abode in the court of the prison until the day that Jerusalem was taken: and he was therei> when Jerusalem was taken.
And in the fourth month, in the ninth dayi> of the month, the famine was sore in the city, so that there was no bread for the people of the land.
And fori> his diet, there was a continual diet given him of the king of Babylon, every day a portion until the day of his death, all the days of his life.
And there was a voice from the firmament that wasi> over their heads, when they stood, andi> had let down their wings.
And he spread it before me; and it wasi> written within and without: and there wasi> written therein lamentations, and mourning, and woe.
And the hand of the LORD was there upon me; and he said unto me, Arise, go forth into the plain, and i will there talk with thee.
And, behold, the glory of the God of Israel wasi> there, according to the vision that i saw in the plain.
Then he brought me to the door of the gate of the LORD'S house which wasi> toward the north; and, behold, there sat women weeping for Tammuz.
Then i looked, and, behold, in the firmament that was above the head of the cherubims there appeared over them as it were a sapphire stone, as the appearance of the likeness of a throne.
Because, even because they have seduced my people, saying, Peace; and there wasi> no peace; and one built up a wall, and, lo, others daubed it with untempered morteri>:
Asi> i live, saith the Lord GOD, surely because my flock became a prey, and my flock became meat to every beast of the field, because there wasi> no shepherd, neither did my shepherds search for my flock, but the shepherds fed themselves, and fed not my flock;
So i prophesied as i was commanded: and as i prophesied, there was a noise, and behold a shaking, and the bones came together, bone to his bone.
And when i beheld, lo, the sinews and the flesh came up upon them, and the skin covered them above: but there wasi> no breath in them.
And he brought me thither, and, behold, there wasi> a man, whose appearance wasi> like the appearance of brass, with a line of flax in his hand, and a measuring reed; and he stood in the gate.
And there werei> windows in it and in the arches thereof round about, like those windows: the length wasi> fifty cubits, and the breadth five and twenty cubits.
And there wasi> a gate in the inner court toward the south: and he measured from gate to gate toward the south an hundred cubits.
And the little chambers thereof, and the posts thereof, and the arches thereof, according to these measures: and there werei> windows in it and in the arches thereof round about: it wasi> fifty cubits long, and five and twenty cubits broad.
And the little chambers thereof, and the posts thereof, and the arches thereof, werei> according to these measures: and there werei> windows therein and in the arches thereof round about: it wasi> fifty cubits long, and five and twenty cubits broad.
The length of the porch wasi> twenty cubits, and the breadth eleven cubits; and he brought mei> by the steps whereby they went up to it: and there werei> pillars by the posts, one on this side, and another on that side.
And there wasi> an enlarging, and a winding about still upward to the side chambers: for the winding about of the house went still upward round about the house: therefore the breadth of the house was stilli> upward, and so increased fromi> the lowest chamberi> to the highest by the midst.
After he brought me through the entry, which wasi> at the side of the gate, into the holy chambers of the priests, which looked toward the north: and, behold, there wasi> a place on the two sides westward.
Then he brought me forth into the utter court, and caused me to pass by the four corners of the court; and, behold, in every corner of the court there wasi> a court.
And there wasi> a row of buildingi> round about in them, round about them four, and it wasi> made with boiling places under the rows round about.
It wasi> round about eighteen thousand measuresi>: and the name of the city from thati> day shall bei>, The LORD isi> there.
While the word wasi> in the king's mouth, there fell a voice from heaven, sayingi>, O king Nebuchadnezzar, to thee it is spoken; The kingdom is departed from thee.
there is a man in thy kingdom, in whom isi> the spirit of the holy gods; and in the days of thy father light and understanding and wisdom, like the wisdom of the gods, was found in him; whom the king Nebuchadnezzar thy father, the king, i sayi>, thy father, made master of the magicians, astrologers, Chaldeans, andi> soothsayers;
Then the presidents and princes sought to find occasion against Daniel concerning the kingdom; but they could find none occasion nor fault; forasmuch as he wasi> faithful, neither was there any error or fault found in him.
And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should serve him: his dominion isi> an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom thati> which shall not be destroyed.
Then i lifted up mine eyes, and saw, and, behold, there stood before the river a ram which had twoi> horns: and the twoi> horns werei> high; but one wasi> higher than the other, and the higher came up last.
i saw the ram pushing westward, and northward, and southward; so that no beasts might stand before him, neither was there anyi> that could deliver out of his hand; but he did according to his will, and became great.
And i saw him come close unto the ram, and he was moved with choler against him, and smote the ram, and brake his two horns: and there was no power in the ram to stand before him, but he cast him down to the ground, and stamped upon him: and there was none that could deliver the ram out of his hand.
Therefore i was left alone, and saw this great vision, and there remained no strength in me: for my comeliness was turned in me into corruption, and i retained no strength.
And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation eveni> to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book.
Yet the number of the children of Israel shall be as the sand of the sea, which cannot be measured nor numbered; and it shall come to pass, thati> in the place where it was said unto them, Ye arei> not my people, therei> it shall be said unto them, Ye arei> the sons of the living God.
And also i have withholden the rain from you, when there werei> yet three months to the harvest: and i caused it to rain upon one city, and caused it not to rain upon another city: one piece was rained upon, and the piece whereupon it rained not withered.
And hisi> brightness was as the light; he had horns comingi> out of his hand: and there wasi> the hiding of his power.
And, behold, there was lifted up a talent of lead: and this isi> a woman that sitteth in the midst of the ephah.
Then lifted i up mine eyes, and looked, and, behold, there came out two women, and the wind wasi> in their wings; for they had wings like the wings of a stork: and they lifted up the ephah between the earth and the heaven.
For before these days there was no hire for man, nor any hire for beast; neither was there anyi> peace to him that went out or came in because of the affliction: for i set all men every one against his neighbour.
For the idols have spoken vanity, and the diviners have seen a lie, and have told false dreams; they comfort in vain: therefore they went their way as a flock, they were troubled, because there wasi> no shepherd.
And was there until the death of Herod: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Out of Egypt have i called my son.
In Rama was there a voice heard, lamentation, and weeping, and great mourning, Rachel weeping fori> her children, and would not be comforted, because they are not.
And, behold, there was a man which had hisi> hand withered. And they asked him, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath days? that they might accuse him.
And i was afraid, and went and hid thy talent in the earth: lo, therei> thou hast that isi> thine.
And when he was gone out into the porch, another maidi> saw him, and said unto them that were there, This fellowi> was also with Jesus of Nazareth.
And straightway many were gathered together, insomuch that there was no room to receive themi>, no, not so much as about the door: and he preached the word unto them.
And when he was gone forth into the way, there came one running, and kneeled to him, and asked him, Good Master, what shall i do that i may inherit eternal life?
there was in the days of Herod, the king of Judaea, a certain priest named Zacharias, of the course of Abia: and his wife wasi> of the daughters of Aaron, and her name wasi> Elisabeth.
And, behold, there was a woman which had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years, and was bowed together, and could in no wise lift up herselfi>.
And, behold, there wasi> a man named Joseph, a counseller; and he wasi> a good man, and a just:
Now Jacob's well was there. Jesus therefore, being wearied with hisi> journey, sat thus on the well: andi> it was about the sixth hour.
The day following, when the people which stood on the other side of the sea saw that there was none other boat there, save that one whereinto his disciples were entered, and that Jesus went not with his disciples into the boat, but thati> his disciples were gone away alone; (Howbeit there came other boats from Tiberias nigh unto the place where they did eat bread, after that the Lord had given thanks:) When the people therefore saw that Jesus was not there, neither his disciples, they also took shipping, and came to Capernaum, seeking for Jesus. And when they had found him on the other side of the sea, they said unto him, Rabbi, when camest thou hither? read more Jesus answered them and said, Verily, verily, i say unto you, Ye seek me, not because ye saw the miracles, but because ye did eat of the loaves, and were filled. Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed. Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God? Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent. They said therefore unto him, What sign shewest thou then, that we may see, and believe thee? what dost thou work? Our fathers did eat manna in the desert; as it is written, He gave them bread from heaven to eat. Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, i say unto you, Moses gave you not that bread from heaven; but my Father giveth you the true bread from heaven. For the bread of God is he which cometh down from heaven, and giveth life unto the world. Then said they unto him, Lord, evermore give us this bread. And Jesus said unto them, i am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst. But i said unto you, That ye also have seen me, and believe not. All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me i will in no wise cast out. For i came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me. And this is the Father's will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me i should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day. And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and i will raise him up at the last day. The Jews then murmured at him, because he said, i am the bread which came down from heaven. And they said, Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? how is it then that he saith, i came down from heaven? Jesus therefore answered and said unto them, Murmur not among yourselves. No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and i will raise him up at the last day. It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught of God. Every man therefore that hath heard, and hath learned of the Father, cometh unto me. Not that any man hath seen the Father, save he which is of God, he hath seen the Father. Verily, verily, i say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life. i am that bread of life. Your fathers did eat manna in the wilderness, and are dead. This is the bread which cometh down from heaven, that a man may eat thereof, and not die. i am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that i will give is my flesh, which i will give for the life of the world. The Jews therefore strove among themselves, saying, How can this man give us hisi> flesh to eat? Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, i say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you. Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and i will raise him up at the last day. For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed. He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me, and i in him. As the living Father hath sent me, and i live by the Father: so he that eateth me, even he shall live by me. This is that bread which came down from heaven: not as your fathers did eat manna, and are dead: he that eateth of this bread shall live for ever. These things said he in the synagogue, as he taught in Capernaum. show less
Ye are of youri> father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.
And i am glad for your sakes that i was not there, to the intent ye may believe; nevertheless let us go unto him.

And because the haven was not commodious to winter in, the more part advised to depart thence also, if by any means they might attain to Phenice, and therei> to winter; which isi> an haven of Crete, and lieth toward the south west and north west.
Who, when they had examined me, would have let mei> go, because there was no cause of death in me.
And it shall come to pass, thati> in the place where it was said unto them, Ye arei> not my people; there shall they be called the children of the living God.
When i therefore was thus minded, did i use lightness? or the things that i purpose, do i purpose according to the flesh, that with me there should be yea yea, and nay nay?
Now therefore perform the doing of iti>; that as there wasi> a readiness to will, so there may bei> a performance also out of that which ye have.
And lest i should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest i should be exalted above measure.
If therefore perfection were by the Levitical priesthood, (for under it the people received the law,) what further need was therei> that another priest should rise after the order of Melchisedec, and not be called after the order of Aaron?
For there was a tabernacle made; the first, wherein wasi> the candlestick, and the table, and the shewbread; which is called the sanctuary.
And he that sat was to look upon like a jasper and a sardine stone: and there wasi> a rainbow round about the throne, in sight like unto an emerald.

And i saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them.
And i saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.
In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, was therei> the tree of life, which bare twelve manner ofi> fruits, andi> yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves of the tree werei> for the healing of the nations.
