The burden of Moab. Because in the night Ar of Moab is laid waste, and brought to silence; because in the night Kir of Moab is laid waste, and brought to silence; |

Amos 2:1
Thus saith the LORD; For three transgressions of Moab, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because he burned the bones of the king of Edom into lime: |

Genesis 19:37
And the firstborn bare a son, and called his name Moab: the same is the father of the Moabites unto this day. |
Yet will I bring again the captivity of moab in the latter days, saith the LORD. Thus far is the judgment of Moab.
And Husham died, and Hadad the son of Bedad, who smote Midian in the field of moab, reigned in his stead: and the name of his city was Avith.
And they journeyed from Oboth, and pitched at Ijeabarim, in the wilderness which is before moab, toward the sunrising.
From thence they removed, and pitched on the other side of Arnon, which is in the wilderness that cometh out of the coasts of the Amorites: for Arnon is the border of moab, between moab and the Amorites.
And from Bamoth in the valley, that is in the country of moab, to the top of Pisgah, which looketh toward Jeshimon.
And the children of Israel set forward, and pitched in the plains of moab on this side Jordan by Jericho.
And the elders of moab and the elders of Midian departed with the rewards of divination in their hand; and they came unto Balaam, and spake unto him the words of Balak.
And Balaam rose up in the morning, and saddled his ass, and went with the princes of moab.
And when Balak heard that Balaam was come, he went out to meet him unto a city of moab, which is in the border of Arnon, which is in the utmost coast.
And Israel abode in Shittim, and the people began to commit whoredom with the daughters of moab.
And Moses and Eleazar the priest spake with them in the plains of moab by Jordan near Jericho, saying,
These are they that were numbered by Moses and Eleazar the priest, who numbered the children of Israel in the plains of moab by Jordan near Jericho.
And they departed from the mountains of Abarim, and pitched in the plains of moab by Jordan near Jericho.
And they pitched by Jordan, from Bethjesimoth even unto Abelshittim in the plains of moab.
These are the commandments and the judgments, which the LORD commanded by the hand of Moses unto the children of Israel in the plains of moab by Jordan near Jericho.
And when we passed by from our brethren the children of Esau, which dwelt in Seir, through the way of the plain from Elath, and from Eziongaber, we turned and passed by the way of the wilderness of moab.
These are the words of the covenant, which the LORD commanded Moses to make with the children of Israel in the land of moab, beside the covenant which he made with them in Horeb.
Get thee up into this mountain Abarim, unto mount Nebo, which is in the land of moab, that is over against Jericho; and behold the land of Canaan, which I give unto the children of Israel for a possession:
So Moses the servant of the LORD died there in the land of moab, according to the word of the LORD.
And he buried him in a valley in the land of moab, over against Bethpeor: but no man knoweth of his sepulchre unto this day.
And the children of Israel wept for Moses in the plains of moab thirty days: so the days of weeping and mourning for Moses were ended.
These are the countries which Moses did distribute for inheritance in the plains of moab, on the other side Jordan, by Jericho, eastward.
And the children of Israel did evil again in the sight of the LORD: and the LORD strengthened Eglon the king of moab against Israel, because they had done evil in the sight of the LORD. And he gathered unto him the children of Ammon and Amalek, and went and smote Israel, and possessed the city of palm trees. So the children of Israel served Eglon the king of moab eighteen years. But when the children of Israel cried unto the LORD, the LORD raised them up a deliverer, Ehud the son of Gera, a Benjamite, a man lefthanded: and by him the children of Israel sent a present unto Eglon the king of moab. read more But Ehud made him a dagger which had two edges, of a cubit length; and he did gird it under his raiment upon his right thigh. And he brought the present unto Eglon king of moab: and Eglon was a very fat man. And when he had made an end to offer the present, he sent away the people that bare the present. But he himself turned again from the quarries that were by Gilgal, and said, I have a secret errand unto thee, O king: who said, Keep silence. And all that stood by him went out from him. And Ehud came unto him; and he was sitting in a summer parlour, which he had for himself alone. And Ehud said, I have a message from God unto thee. And he arose out of his seat. And Ehud put forth his left hand, and took the dagger from his right thigh, and thrust it into his belly: And the haft also went in after the blade; and the fat closed upon the blade, so that he could not draw the dagger out of his belly; and the dirt came out. Then Ehud went forth through the porch, and shut the doors of the parlour upon him, and locked them. When he was gone out, his servants came; and when they saw that, behold, the doors of the parlour were locked, they said, Surely he covereth his feet in his summer chamber. And they tarried till they were ashamed: and, behold, he opened not the doors of the parlour; therefore they took a key, and opened them: and, behold, their lord was fallen down dead on the earth. And Ehud escaped while they tarried, and passed beyond the quarries, and escaped unto Seirath. And it came to pass, when he was come, that he blew a trumpet in the mountain of Ephraim, and the children of Israel went down with him from the mount, and he before them. And he said unto them, Follow after me: for the LORD hath delivered your enemies the Moabites into your hand. And they went down after him, and took the fords of Jordan toward moab, and suffered not a man to pass over. And they slew of moab at that time about ten thousand men, all lusty, and all men of valour; and there escaped not a man. So moab was subdued that day under the hand of Israel. And the land had rest fourscore years. show less
And the children of Israel did evil again in the sight of the LORD, and served Baalim, and Ashtaroth, and the gods of Syria, and the gods of Zidon, and the gods of moab, and the gods of the children of Ammon, and the gods of the Philistines, and forsook the LORD, and served not him.
Then Israel sent messengers unto the king of Edom, saying, Let me, I pray thee, pass through thy land: but the king of Edom would not hearken thereto. And in like manner they sent unto the king of moab: but he would not consent: and Israel abode in Kadesh.
Now it came to pass in the days when the judges ruled, that there was a famine in the land. And a certain man of Bethlehemjudah went to sojourn in the country of moab, he, and his wife, and his two sons. And the name of the man was Elimelech, and the name of his wife Naomi, and the name of his two sons Mahlon and Chilion, Ephrathites of Bethlehemjudah. And they came into the country of moab, and continued there. And Elimelech Naomi's husband died; and she was left, and her two sons. And they took them wives of the women of moab; the name of the one was Orpah, and the name of the other Ruth: and they dwelled there about ten years. read more And Mahlon and Chilion died also both of them; and the woman was left of her two sons and her husband. Then she arose with her daughters in law, that she might return from the country of moab: for she had heard in the country of moab how that the LORD had visited his people in giving them bread. Wherefore she went forth out of the place where she was, and her two daughters in law with her; and they went on the way to return unto the land of Judah. And Naomi said unto her two daughters in law, Go, return each to her mother's house: the LORD deal kindly with you, as ye have dealt with the dead, and with me. The LORD grant you that ye may find rest, each of you in the house of her husband. Then she kissed them; and they lifted up their voice, and wept. And they said unto her, Surely we will return with thee unto thy people. And Naomi said, Turn again, my daughters: why will ye go with me? are there yet any more sons in my womb, that they may be your husbands? Turn again, my daughters, go your way; for I am too old to have an husband. If I should say, I have hope, if I should have an husband also to night, and should also bear sons; Would ye tarry for them till they were grown? would ye stay for them from having husbands? nay, my daughters; for it grieveth me much for your sakes that the hand of the LORD is gone out against me. And they lifted up their voice, and wept again: and Orpah kissed her mother in law; but Ruth clave unto her. And she said, Behold, thy sister in law is gone back unto her people, and unto her gods: return thou after thy sister in law. And Ruth said, Intreat me not to leave thee, or to return from following after thee: for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God: Where thou diest, will I die, and there will I be buried: the LORD do so to me, and more also, if ought but death part thee and me. When she saw that she was stedfastly minded to go with her, then she left speaking unto her. So they two went until they came to Bethlehem. And it came to pass, when they were come to Bethlehem, that all the city was moved about them, and they said, Is this Naomi? And she said unto them, Call me not Naomi, call me Mara: for the Almighty hath dealt very bitterly with me. I went out full, and the LORD hath brought me home again empty: why then call ye me Naomi, seeing the LORD hath testified against me, and the Almighty hath afflicted me? So Naomi returned, and Ruth the Moabitess, her daughter in law, with her, which returned out of the country of moab: and they came to Bethlehem in the beginning of barley harvest. show less

in those days also saw I Jews that had married wives of Ashdod, of Ammon, and of moab:
The burden of moab. Because in the night Ar of moab is laid waste, and brought to silence; because in the night Kir of moab is laid waste, and brought to silence;
My heart shall cry out for moab; his fugitives shall flee unto Zoar, an heifer of three years old: for by the mounting up of Luhith with weeping shall they go it up; for in the way of Horonaim they shall raise up a cry of destruction.
For in this mountain shall the hand of the LORD rest, and moab shall be trodden down under him, even as straw is trodden down for the dunghill.
Egypt, and Judah, and Edom, and the children of Ammon, and moab, and all that are in the utmost corners, that dwell in the wilderness: for all these nations are uncircumcised, and all the house of Israel are uncircumcised in the heart.
Likewise when all the Jews that were in moab, and among the Ammonites, and in Edom, and that were in all the countries, heard that the king of Babylon had left a remnant of Judah, and that he had set over them Gedaliah the son of Ahikam the son of Shaphan;
There shall be no more praise of moab: in Heshbon they have devised evil against it; come, and let us cut it off from being a nation. Also thou shalt be cut down, O Madmen; the sword shall pursue thee.
moab hath been at ease from his youth, and he hath settled on his lees, and hath not been emptied from vessel to vessel, neither hath he gone into captivity: therefore his taste remained in him, and his scent is not changed.
