But some mani> will say, How are the dead raised up? and with what body do they come? Thoui> fool, that which thou sowest is not quickened, except it die: And that which thou sowest, thou sowest not that body that shall be, but bare grain, it may chance of wheat, or of some other graini>: But God giveth it a body as it hath pleased him, and to every seed his own body. read more All flesh isi> not the same flesh: but there isi> one kind ofi> flesh of men, another flesh of beasts, another of fishes, andi> another of birds. There arei> also celestial bodies, and bodies terrestrial: but the glory of the celestial isi> one, and the gloryi> of the terrestrial isi> another. There isi> one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars: for onei> star differeth from anotheri> star in glory. So also isi> the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption; it is raised in incorruption: It is sown in dishonour; it is raised in glory: it is sown in weakness; it is raised in power: It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body. And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was madei> a quickening spirit. Howbeit that wasi> not first which is spiritual, but that which is natural; and afterward that which is spiritual. The first man isi> of the earth, earthy: the second man isi> the Lord from heaven. As isi> the earthy, such arei> they also that are earthy: and as isi> the heavenly, such arei> they also that are heavenly. And as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly. Now this i say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption. Behold, i shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal musti> put on immortality. So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory. O death, where isi> thy sting? O grave, where isi> thy victory? The sting of death isi> sin; and the strength of sin isi> the law. But thanks bei> to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord. show less
And what shall i more say? for the time would fail me to tell of Gedeon, and ofi> Barak, and ofi> Samson, and ofi> Jephthae; ofi> David also, and Samuel, and ofi> the prophets:
So that we may boldly say, The Lord isi> my helper, and i will not fear what man shall do unto me.
what doth iti> profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him? If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food, And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be yei> warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth iti> profit? Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone. read more Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and i have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and i will shew thee my faith by my works. Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble. But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead? Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar? Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect? And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God. Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only. Likewise also was not Rahab the harlot justified by works, when she had received the messengers, and had sent themi> out another way? For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also. show less
