What does Luke 2:25-26 Mean?

Contextual Meaning

Simeon was a godly individual who testified to Jesus" significance under divine inspiration. This was part of Luke"s purpose of assuring his readers that Jesus was indeed the Lord. He used the testimony of credible people to do this. Simeon possessed the three essential characteristics of Old Testament piety: he was righteous and devout, one of the believing remnant in Israel who was looking for Messiah"s appearing. [1] The Spirit who is the Consoler was upon one who was waiting for the consolation of Israel (i.e, the Messiah). [2] Many readers have assumed that Simeon was an old Prayer of Manasseh , but the text does not say that, though he may have been.
