[35] And  the  same  day,  when the even  was come,  he saith  unto them,  Let us pass over  unto  the other side.  [36] And  when they had sent away  the multitude,  they took  him  even as  in  the ship.  also  with  him  other  [37] And  there arose  a great  storm  of wind,  the waves  beat  into  the ship,  so that  now  full.  [38] And  he  in  the hinder part of the ship,  asleep  on  a pillow:  and  him,  and  say  unto him,  Master,  carest  not  that  we perish?  [39] And  he arose,  and rebuked  the wind,  and  said  unto the sea,  Peace,  be still.  And  the wind  ceased,  and  there was  a great  calm.  [40] And  he said  unto them,  Why  fearful?  that ye have  faith?  [41] And  they feared  exceedingly,  and  to  another,  What  manner of man  this,  that  even  the wind  and  the sea  obey  him?

Contextual Meaning

Many unique features of Mark"s narrative indicate that it came from an eyewitness account, probably Peter. These include mention of "that day" ( Mark 4:35), "as He [1] was" and the other boats ( Mark 4:36), the stern and the cushion ( Mark 4:38), and the rebuke, terror, and bewilderment of the disciples ( Mark 4:38; Mark 4:41).
