Colossians 1:9-14

[9] For  also,  since  the  day  we heard  not  cease  to pray  for  and  to desire  that  ye might be filled  with the knowledge  of his  will  in  all  wisdom  and  spiritual  understanding;  [10] might walk  worthy  of the Lord  unto  all  pleasing,  being fruitful  in  every  good  work,  and  increasing  in  the knowledge  of God;  [11] Strengthened  with  all  might,  according to  his  glorious  power,  unto  all  patience  and  longsuffering  with  joyfulness;  [12] Giving thanks  unto the Father,  which  meet  to  be partakers  of the inheritance  of the saints  in  light:  [13] Who  hath delivered  from  the power  of darkness,  and  hath translated  us into  the kingdom  of his  dear  Son:  [14] In  whom  we have  redemption  even the forgiveness  of sins:

What does Colossians 1:9-14 Mean?

Contextual Meaning

Paul told his readers that he prayed for their full perception and deepest understanding of God"s will for them and for all believers. He did this so they would be able to glorify God in their conduct. He told them this to remind them that their understanding must come through the working of God"s Spirit in them and that correct understanding is foundational to correct behavior.
"It so often happens that in prayer we are really saying, "Thy will be changed," when we ought to be saying, "Thy will be done."...
"We pray, not in order to escape life, but in order to be better able to meet life. We pray, not in order to withdraw ourselves from life, but in order to live life in the world of men as it ought to be lived." [1]
