Galatians 1:11-17

Galatians 1:11-17

[11] I certify  brethren,  that  the gospel  which  was preached  of  not  after  man.  [12] For  neither  received  it  of  man,  neither  was I taught  it, but  by  the revelation  of Jesus  Christ.  [13] For  ye have heard  of my  conversation  in time past  in  the Jews' religion,  how that  beyond  measure  I persecuted  the church  of God,  and  wasted  it:  [14] And  profited  in  the Jews' religion  above  many  my equals  in  nation,  being  zealous  of the traditions  fathers.  [15] But  when  it pleased  God,  who  separated  from  mother's  womb,  and  called  me by  his  grace,  [16] To reveal  his  Son  in  that  I might preach  him  among  the heathen;  immediately  I conferred  not  with flesh  and  blood:  [17] Neither  went I up  to  Jerusalem  to  them which were apostles  before  but  I went  into  Arabia,  and  returned  again  unto  Damascus.

What does Galatians 1:11-17 Mean?

Contextual Meaning

Paul clarified the source of his gospel message in this pericope to convince his readers that the gospel he had preached to them was the true gospel. What the false teachers were presenting was heresy. He began an autobiographical section here ( Galatians 1:11 to Galatians 2:14). It fills one-fifth of the entire epistle. In it he went to great pains to prove that both his gospel and his commission to preach it came directly from Jesus Christ on the Damascus road ( Galatians 1:15-16). It did not come to him from any intermediary.
