John 20:3-4

John 20:3-4

[3] Peter  therefore  went forth,  and  that other  disciple,  and  came  to  the sepulchre.  [4] So  they ran  both  together:  and  the other  disciple  did outrun  Peter,  and  came  first  to  the sepulchre.

What does John 20:3-4 Mean?

Contextual Meaning

The detail of John outrunning Peter to the tomb was probably just confirmation of an eyewitness report. It also shows that these disciples had not removed Jesus" body. There is no basis in the text for allegorizing these men and making them stand for the Gentile church and the Jewish church, as some theologians have done. [1]
