Luke 22:24-27

Luke 22:24-27

[24] And  there was  also  a strife  among  them,  which  of them  should be accounted  [25] And  he said  unto them,  The kings  of the Gentiles  exercise lordship over  them;  and  they that exercise authority upon  them  are called  benefactors.  [26] But  shall not  be so:  but  among  let him be  as  the younger;  and  he that is chief,  as  he that doth serve.  [27] For  whether  he that sitteth at meat,  or  he that serveth?  is not  he that sitteth at meat?  but  am  among  as  he that serveth.

What does Luke 22:24-27 Mean?

Contextual Meaning

Following Jesus" announcement of His self-sacrifice and the announcement of His betrayal, the disciples" argument over who of them was the greatest appears thoroughly inappropriate (cf. Matthew 20:17-28; Mark 10:32-45). Jesus used the situation as an opportunity to teach them the importance of humility again (cf. Luke 9:46-48). Luke"s recording of the lesson again illustrates its vital importance for all disciples.
